Two-Week Capacity Building Workshop for Fisheries Cooperatives in Jubaland

The Two-Week Capacity Building Workshop for Fisheries Cooperatives was implemented in Kismayo City, Lower Juba, Jubaland State of Somalia, from 05 October to 09 November 2024, for the Ministry of Fishery and Blue Economy, Jubaland State of Somalia. The initiative aimed to strengthen the institutional, governance, and financial capacities of fisheries cooperatives to support sustainable fisheries management and inclusive economic development.

Key Activities & Achievements

  • Delivered five practical, hands-on training modules tailored to the needs of fisheries cooperatives.

  • Developed and utilized Somali-language visual toolkits and training curricula to ensure accessibility and effective learning.

  • Trained 38 participants from 15 fisheries cooperatives, enhancing cooperative leadership and operational skills.

  • Guided 12 cooperatives in adopting by-laws, basic financial management tools, and governance frameworks.

  • Promoted gender inclusion and elder participation in cooperative governance and decision-making processes.

  • Applied participatory learning approaches, including simulations, visual learning methods, and storytelling techniques.

  • Achieved 100% participant attendance, engagement, and certificate completion across the training program.

All activities were delivered through interactive and participatory methodologies, ensuring strong knowledge retention and practical application. The workshop contributed to improved cooperative governance, accountability, and long-term resilience within the fisheries sector in Jubaland.
